| Thallus endophloeodal, pale greenish grey, dull to slightly glossy, porous, continuous, non-rimose, ecorticate. Algal layer poorly developed, discontinuous; calcium oxalate crystals not seen. Vegetative propagules not seen. Ascomata inconspicuous, to c. 0.5 mm diam., ±rounded to somewhat irregular in fused ascomata, occasionally apothecioid to chroodiscoid in older stages, erumpent, solitary to marginally fused, sometimes in small clusters, immersed. Disc becoming partly to rarely completely visible from above, pale yellowish to pale flesh-coloured, epruinose. Pores becoming wide to gaping, to c. 0.4 mm diam., ±rounded to irregular, split; proper exciple not visible from above. Thalline rim margin thick, lacerate to coarsely squamulose, occasionally slightly layered, off-white, incurved to somewhat erect in outer parts. Proper exciple fused, thin to thick, often indistinct due to incorporated substratum layers, hyaline internally, pale yellowish grey marginally, non-amyloid. Hymenium to c. 90 µm thick, not inspersed, weakly conglutinated; paraphyses parallel, mostly straight, unbranched, the tips slightly thickened or not; lateral paraphyses inconspicuous, to c. 20 µm long, often not clearly separated from the proper exciple; columellar structures absent. Epihymenium hyaline to slightly greyish, with fine hyaline or pale greyish granules. Asci 8-spored; tholus initially thin, not visible at maturity. Ascospores submuriform to muriform, initially clavate, becoming oblong to ±rounded-clavate at maturity, with ±rounded to narrowly rounded ends, hyaline, non-amyloid, 17–25 × 6–9 µm, with 6–9 × 1–3 (–4) locules; locules small, distinctly angular and irregular in younger stages, becoming ±rounded to slightly angular and subglobose to oblong; end cells the same shape or hemispherical; transverse septa thick, distinct, regular; ascospore wall thin, with a thin halo; endospore thick. Pycnidia not seen. CHEMISTRY: Thallus K–, C–, P–; no secondary compounds detectable by TLC. | ||
